England’s tour of Bangladesh has been a thriller so far and there have been some brilliant, man-of-the-match performances from both sides: who could forget Mashrafe Mortaza in the 2nd ODI or Ben Stokes in the 1st Test?

England won the ODI series 2-1 and clinched victory in the 1st Test by the tightest of margins – just 22 runs. The 2nd Test starts on Friday, and to get you in the mood for this final match Azimo has lined up six of Bangladesh’s biggest cricketing moments.

1998: First ODI win

Bangladesh’s first ever ODI victory came against Kenya in the Coca Cola Triangular Series, held in India. Chasing a target of 237, Bangladesh’s Mohammad Rafique was the hero of the day in both innings, taking 3-56 with his slow left-arm spin and then opening the batting and smashing 77 off 87 balls, including 11 fours and a six. Sadly for the Tigers, though, that was their only win of the series and they ended up in last place.

1999: First victory over Pakistan

When the Tigers came up against mighty local rivals Pakistan in the 1999 World Cup, no one really gave them much of a chance. But it was a ‘dead’ match and Bangladesh had nothing to lose. The English town of Northampton was the venue and the County Ground could have sold out several times over. As it was, when the Tigers supporters streamed on to the pitch at the end, their team had made history by toppling Pakistan by 62 runs.

2005: First Test match win

When Bangladesh narrowly lost to England this week, it was their 94th Test match since they first gained Test status in 2000. Their inaugural match was against India in Dhaka and they were well beaten in the end. Of the remaining 93 five-day games, they’ve won a total of just seven (five of which have been against fellow minnows Zimbabwe). But Chittagong 2005 is forever etched in the national memory as the Tigers thrashed Zimbabwe by 226 runs to win their first Test match at the 35th attempt.

2012: Final of the Asia Cup

The Tigers entered this four-team tournament as underdogs, up against India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but they beat the odds by making it all the way to the final, beating India and Sri Lanka in the group stages along the way. Their brilliant run eventually came to an end when they were pipped to the trophy by Pakistan by the smallest of margins – just two runs.

2015: Knockout stages of the World Cup

The 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand was a huge success for Bangladesh as they won three of their group matches, including a thrilling victory against England in Adelaide that sent them through to the knockout stages and condemned England to an early exit. Mahmudullah Riyad’s speedy century was the first by a Bangladeshi in a World Cup match.

2015: First ODI series win against South Africa

South Africa arrived in Bangladesh and won the T20 series 2-0, but it was a different story in the ODI series that followed. The Proteas won the first match easily, with South African debutant Kagiso Rabada taking only the second ever ODI hat-trick, but the Tigers fought back to win the remaining two games and clinch the series 2-1. It was their first ODI series win against South Africa and their fourth straight ODI series win on home soil.
