Batanes

Situated at the northernmost tip of the Philippines, Batanes is the smallest province in the country. It’s made up of ten islands, only three of which are inhabited: Batan, Itbayat and Sabtang. Rolling hills, rugged landscapes dotted with limestone houses and stone cliffs pounded by waves make it the perfect adventure escape.

Puerto Princesa Underground River, Palawan

With aquamarine waters, white sand beaches and towering cliffs, it’s no wonder Palawan is hailed as one of the most beautiful islands in the world – and the Puerto Princesa river is one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. The 8.2km river runs through a 24km cave system filled with stalactites, stalagmites and cavernous cathedrals galore.

Lake Kayangan, Palawan

Another Palawan wonder is Lake Kayangan in Coron. After a short uphill climb and downhill scramble, you’ll be greeted by the sight of crystal-clear waters surrounded by karst limestone formations. And the reward for your efforts? A refreshing dip with nothing but nature for company.

Mount Mayon, Albay

Mount Mayon rises to a height of 2,462m and is the most active volcano in the Philippines, with frequent eruptions. Forming part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, the peak and its surroundings were the first national park in the country and the world-renowned “perfect cone” makes the perfect picture-postcard backdrop – just don’t get too close!

Chocolate Hills, Bohol

These dome-shaped limestone hills are covered with green grass that turns a darker shade of brown during the dry season, making them appear like an endless box of chocolate kisses. With more than a thousand hills spread across the range, the Chocolate Hills look almost good enough to eat.

Camiguin

This pearl-shaped island in the south of the Philippines is the second smallest province in the country. Despite its petite size, though, Camiguin is packed with natural attractions. With a sunken cemetery, white sandbar, cold springs, hot springs, waterfalls and volcanoes, there’s no shortage of sights on the “Island Born of Fire”.

Great Santa Cruz Island, Zamboanga

Add some colour to your world with a trip to Great Santa Cruz Island. Located just off the coast of bustling Zamboanga City, the island’s best known for its dramatic 2km stretch of pink sand, which comes from the crushed red organ pipe corals. To brighten things up even further, you might also catch sight of a vinta – the traditional multicoloured boats of Zamboanga.
